Nutrition is about eating a healthy and balanced diet. Calories

A unit of energy in food. Carbohydrates, fats, protein in the foods we eat and drinks we take provide food energy or “calories.”

Protein

Protein is in every living cell in the body. Our body needs protein from the foods that we eat to build and maintain bones, muscles, and skin. We need to eat protein every day, because our body doesn’t store it the way it stores fats or carbohydrates. Protein helps to build muscle tissue, maintain lean muscle mass and provides energy.

Carbohydrates

Fat is a type of nutrient. We need a certain amount of fat in our diet to stay healthy, but not too much. Fats give us energy and help our body absorb vitamins. Fiber

Fiber is a substance in plants. Dietary fiber is the kind we eat. It’s a type of carbohydrate. We may also see it listed on a food label as soluble fiber or insoluble fiber. Both types have important health benefits. Fiber makes us feel full faster, and stay full for a longer time. That can help us control our weight. It helps digestion and helps prevent constipation.
